Be Seller Savvy

cheap baby clothesIf you thought you had hundreds of pounds stashed in your children’s wardrobes, you would pay it straight in to the bank in a hurry right?

You more than likely have! Ever thought to yourself that you’re going to have a sort out but the task seems oh so daunting when you open the doors and drawers to find a complete pickle of assorted clothes & toys?
We can help with some simple steps to help you make more space, money (and find those bargain treasures you’ve been looking for)…without having to leave the house, simples!

Start by putting in to piles to break down what you have – for example boys 0-3 months and so on; perhaps you might consider selling as a bundle
Put aside more expensive items such as snowsuits, coats, designer labels or shoes; you may want to charge a bit more for these.
Put aside anything you feel needs a wash or may be stained – we can help with this a bit later on….

Taking some nice photos will really help maximise your sale, try for a neutral background with good lighting so that your items are really enhanced.

Think about the positive features, what are the selling points that can help you describe it?

  • Never been worn/with tags
  • Organic
  • Handmade
  • Designer brand
  • Unisex

How much to charge?

Think about what you would pay, take a look at similar listings to get an idea of what these items sell for and as a general rule of thumb remember that no more than a third of the original price is about on the right lines.

Don’t forget that you don’t have to charge cash if there is something in particular that you are on the hunt for; you can name items that you are willing to swap for!

You may want to refer to Post Office charges also; you don’t want to end up out of pocket for posting your items.  Of course there is the option of collection by the buyer too or you may opt to use a courier service.  However you decide to send your packages, remember to incorporate that cost in your listing.

We recommend to use PayPal for any transactions for peace of mind (although there is a small fee attached) and wait to post until you have received cleared funds.

Let everyone know

Now that you are ready to add your items for sale, don’t forget our website is FREE to use with unlimited posts, just sign up/login and you are ready to roll!

Adding an item is simple and we have a Help section if you get stuck.  Once your item is live, why not help promote it by sharing the link on our Facebook page or your profile for more exposure.

The more members that we get, the higher the chances of you selling all of your items as well as finding that perfect bargain you’ve been searching for.  Recommend a friend, everyone’s a winner!

But what about soiled or damaged goods?

Please ensure that all of the items listed are clean and faultless.  Of course this is down to common sense but some minor faults you can still sell at a reduced cost as long as you are honest about them for example if an item of clothing has a snag or a button missing – the buyer can make an informed choice whether to have it anyway (you can always sew a button back on!)

It’s always a great shame when you struggle to remove a stain from an otherwise perfect garment (and typically, it’s always the favourite!)

Here’s some tips for stain removal using every day products you already have in the home:

Nowadays there are many safer alternatives to the traditional chemical cleaners. Not only do these protect your children’s health, they are better for the environment too. Look out for products which are:

  • Non-flammable
  • Biodegradable
  • Made from natural ingredients
  • Formulated without dye or chemical preservatives
  • Made without the use of chemical solvents, chlorine, ammonia, phosphates, alkalis, nitrates, borates acidsor volatile organic compounds

Aside from buying “green” cleaners, you can make many safe and effective household cleaners simply by raiding your own pantry. These include baking soda, white wine vinegar, salt, lemon juice and washing soda. Vinegar, for example, is a mild organic acid which can kill 99 percent of bacteria. Sprayed neat around the house, it makes a fantastic all-purpose cleaner and deodoriser. Similarly, baking soda is great at absorbing odours and makes a fantastic non-abrasive cleaner which works on even the toughest stains.

Although they are sometimes criticised for not being as effective as commercial chemical cleaners, these pantry items can actually be just as effective if used correctly and at the right times. Best of all, they pose no danger to your children when used around the home.

There are some fabulous services available too for larger items such as pushchairs. Buggy Pitstop specialises in valeting, servicing and repairing higher-end pushchairs (for example Bugaboo) making your pushchair as good as new; which all helps maximise your selling potential.  They can collect and deliver UK Nationwide and will also consider buying it from you.

Always communicate with your buyers; letting them know when to expect their parcels and so on.  This helps give members some reassurance and helps you to build a glowing reputation as a seller ;)  From 1st May 2013, members will be able to search via user name and find their favourite sellers.

Don’t worry about missing anything – we will send you an email notification if somebody sends you an inbox message or comments on your items :) Good luck xxx

Be Second Hand Savvy

Having a baby can be a phenomenally expensive exercise. But with a bit of second-hand know-how you can save up to 90 per cent on most of your purchases.

Wanting the best for your child doesn’t have to mean bankrupting yourself. And worrying about the family budget won’t do you or your children any good at all.

Once you catch the second-hand bug it will be amazing what you pick up. The reality is that if it’s available new, it’s available second-hand. To get yourself started, try having a look around on our website before your baby comes along, to see the wide-range of goods on sale. You’ll find anything from bundles of baby clothes to pushchairs and cheap nursery furniture. And much of it will be virtually unused. Just think what the life span is for baby stuff in general – they don’t need it for long! Same with maternity clothes; you don’t even wear them for the full nine months.

Some second-hand items will cost a tenth of their original cost or less. As a rule of thumb, you should never pay more than a third of the full price. What you pay will depend in part on luck and determination and also from whom you choose to buy. Certain items such as climbing frames and cloth nappiesclothes bsos pic can command up to half of their new price: if the seller knows their value. Many online shoppers choose to purchase via Paypal – you pay a small fee but you have the security of a safe transaction and you can claim a refund if the item is not what you expected it to be.

NCT Sales and online auctions such as eBay have fees attached when attending, buying and selling. Our website is free to use and always will be. Post or courier usually sends items that you buy, which you can arrange with the seller.

There are of course items that you shouldn’t buy second hand due to Health and Safety reasons for example cot mattresses and car seats. Other items such as pushchairs and toys should always carry the British Standard kite-mark; it’s worth checking they bear these stickers before you part with your money.
All items should be clean and damage free. Any faults, parts missing or damage should be made known to the buyer; a child’s safety is paramount.

Simple Pleasures

I’m not the most energetic of people and certainly not very creative but I love to spend time with my little one doing things that HE loves. If you’re anything like me, you see Facebook posts and Pinterest pins on how to make fancy cakes, cuddly toys and that you should go to this great adventure play place…well I’ve never got those spare materials or ingredients hanging around and those places are always miles away or would cost you a pretty penny if you went on a regular basis. BUT we feel pressure to be the ‘perfect mummy’ because everyone else is doing it (or it feels that way) We feel guilty if we busy ourselves whilst they watch a bit of TV….
Until recently when I discovered an activity quite by accident. It’s soooo simple; all this time I had been thinking too deeply about what to do and what I WASNT doing and tying myself in knots about it. Actually there are two activities…..

Ok don’t laugh but the first one was a bus ride. You see my little boy is obsessed with buses, he plays with toy buses, sings ‘The Wheels on the Bus’ – you get the picture so I thought hey we will take the bus somewhere – he doesn’t care where, he just loves riding on the bus.  We walked around a few shops and bought a book – yep you guessed right, it was a book about buses and he was sooo excited! He is only 3 ;) He talked about it for days afterwards! A happy boy and a satisfied Mummy in the knowledge that I had made his day and so simply.

The other is even easier – Go for a walk! It may sound boring but if you really take in your surroundings; the sights, the smells, the sounds and talk about the discoveries with your little ones, again – they love it! My little boy can now name quite a few flowers, he counts how many daffodils are in the garden, we listen for dogs barking, birds tweeting and the familiar tunes of the ice cream van music (you may decide not to let on what that music is! haha) It doesn’t matter where you live, there will always be something to see and hear; whether it’s the big diggers on the building site, the trains rumbling along or cows mooing in a field – just take the time to stretch your legs, breathe in some fresh air and spend quality time with your children for free.
The one thing I’ve learnt recently is that is isn’t about an exciting adventure but having one to one time, sharing new things and enjoying each others’ company; feel the love!

In the Tub with Nuby

I was ecstatic to receive a selection of bath toys from Nuby UK for my son just at the point where I needed to chuck the current ones that had got a bit ‘old hat’ and weathered. Cory’s eyes lit up at the colourful variety and bath time became a much more enjoyable as well as an educational experience :)

First there were a stack of 5 cups in different colours and patterns with holes for the water to seep through, these provide great entertainment; watching and feeling the water raining down. There is also an Octopus with a plunger type handle that you can push down and pull up and watch the octopus fill with water; another great experimental toy for Cory to learn a bit of science during play along with a cute tortoise; also with holes.

As well as those, there is a colourful net with four colourful aquatic animals to catch, Cory loves trying to catch them in the water; and great for improving his co-ordination!

My favourite is the set of alphabet letters A – Z and numbers 0-9 that come in all colours and patterns. They stick to the side of the bath; we have spelt out ‘Cory’ and learnt many words that start with each letter. Cory can now recognise each letter and digit – what a great educational toy! (He also loves catching those in the net too!)

These toys are not only fun and educational but very durable too. We also took them on holiday with us with the intention to help reassure Cory at bath time with some familiarity being in a different bath but we also ended up taking them to the baby pool with us and it provided Cory with hours of amusement as well as other children wanting to join in (and even take them home if they had the chance!) Thanks Nuby, we highly recommend.NUBY BATH TOYS

What to Buy for your Baby – Guest post

Todays post is a guest post from the lovely Hollie Smith author of First Time Mum

At some point in the run-up to birth, the mind of every expectant first-time parent turns to the unavoidable matter of what they need to buy for their baby.

It’s a tricky matter, no doubt about it, with such a silly amount of stuff available on offer for your baby’s every possible requirement. If you bought it all, you’d be bankrupt – as well as buried. And if you’ve got limited space and a limited budget (let’s face it, who hasn’t?), it helps to know what’s really necessary and what you can well do without.

So what does your average new baby really require, when it comes to consumer goods and essential products? What do you need ensure your new arrival’s demands are met? Or, perhaps more to the point, what DON’T you need?

I devoted a chapter to the matter in First Time Mum and, having canvassed the views of everyone on my mums’ panel, I can tell you that – other than a handful of absolute basics you’d certainly struggle to manage without (vests and sleepsuits; something for him to sleep in; nappies and wipes; and a method of transporting him from A to B), there’s no definitive list, really. Pretty much everything is up for debate. Turns out one mum’s essential is another’s waste of money.

Liat Hughes Joshi , author of  What To Buy For Your Baby http://www.amazon.co.uk/What-Your-Baby-Hughes-Joshi/dp/1907952284/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_3, agrees.

‘What’s right for you, your baby, your lifestyle and budget, may be very different to what’s right for others, so it can be enormously confusing deciding what to buy,’ Liat says. ‘It doesn’t help that everyone seems to have different views about what’s needed – a situation which has got worse as parents are now also bombarded with contrasting opinions on internet parenting sites.’

It was certainly interesting to see how many items were considered a duff purchase by members of my panel. Snowsuits are a ‘red herring’ according to Clare F; wipe dispensers are ‘completely pointless’ I’m told by Rebecca F; nappy bins are a total no-no because they ‘smell repulsive – far worse than the dirty nappies themselves’, says Jo W; and special, baby sized sheets are ‘a waste of money’, Abi M reveals, as you can simply cut up normal size bed linen to fit your cot. Among the other regrettable acquisitions on the same list are ‘top and tail’ bowls, changing units, bottle warmers, fancy outfits, baby toiletry boxes and 4oz feeding bottles (because ‘they’ll be knocking back 8oz before you know it,’  - Celine G).

Of course, what you have to remember is that, almost certainly, there’ll also be parents out there who couldn’t live without their nappy bin/changing unit/wipe dispenser. So please don’t let me put you off any these items if you’re genuinely tempted.

Truth is, you never really know what’s going to be useful and what isn’t until you’ve actually put them to the test. Liat’s advice, therefore, is to avoid early onset retail frenzies. It may feel incredibly important to have absolutely everything lined up before your baby even arrives, but for most things, there’s no rush.

‘Don’t buy too much upfront, especially if money is tight,’ she urges. ‘Stick with the essentials and then work out what else you need as you’re going along. You can always send your partner or friend on an emergency run to the shops, or order online. ‘

Whatever you decide you need, it makes sense to get as much as you can on the cheap by buying second hand or nearly new Better still, take anything going that’s free, whether hand-me-downs from friends and family, unwanted bits nabbed via Freecycle. (There are only two things you definitely shouldn’t acquire second-hand – one’s a car seat, just in case it’s previously been damaged in an accident, which could compromise its safety, and the other is baby mattresses, because used mattresses have been associated with an increased risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.)

‘Consider your spending particularly carefully on items which are only used for weeks or months. Things like bouncy chairs, for example, are really useful, but they’re outgrown by around six months, so you may be better off sourcing them second-hand, or even just borrowing them,’ advises Liat.

‘On the other hand, some things are worth splashing out on even when they’re not essentials. A lovely changing bag, for instance, can give you a boost if you’re feeling frumpy post-birth.’

Finally, bear in mind that, however carefully you shop for your baby, you’ll almost certainly end up with some things you wish you hadn’t bothered with. It doesn’t really doesn’t matter in the scheme of things – you can always get some of your money back by flogging them on www.babyswaporshop.co.uk. Or you could simply pass it on to another parent who might find it more useful than you did!

More top tips on buying for your baby, from the First Time Mum pannellists.

  • Let your baby try out expensive non-essentials like bouncers and slings BEFORE forking out for them. Some babies just don’t want to be put in these things!Lucy R
  • No-one ever wishes they’d bought MORE stuff for their baby, but most end up wishing they’d bought less/borrowed more/waited to see what they really needed – Heidi S
  • I was the first of my friends to have a baby and I told everyone to get lots of muslins. Most of my friends have since said asked why. Turns out I just had a sicky baby! The moral of the story is every baby’s different. Wait and see what yours needs – Claire A
  • Don’t rip tags off or throw packaging away. Shops are often really good about exchanging stuff that’s the wrong size, or simply not to your taste  – Viv S
  • Avoid the big baby shops. You’ll walk round and see a zillion things you think you need, but actually don’t. Research and buy online, instead – Lauren

Half Term Activities that won’t break the bank!

It is hard to believe it but half term is already upon us, one more school run to go then a whole week off to fill.  I am sure somewhere in the midst of January I blinked and missed a couple of weeks.  If you are still feeling the pinch a little bit after Christmas then here are a few activities you can do at home with your little ones that won’t break the bank.

Home made play dough.

My toddlers will play for hours with play dough but buying it can be expensive so why not have a go at making your own?

Here is a quick and simple recipe I got from my local Sure Start centre -

  • 250g plain flour
  • 50g salt
  • 140ml water
  • 1 – 2 tablespoons of cooking oil

Pop the ingredients into a bowl and mix them together, adding more flour or water if needed, knead the dough until it is smooth then pop it into the fridge in a plastic bag till you want to play.

You can add food colouring or even some glitter to the mixture if you want too.

Start preparing for next Christmas!

“Is this women mad, it is February!” I hear you all cry! Well in my opinion it is never to early to start and it is always best to be organised, so why not spend the morning recycling last years cards and turning them into next years gift tags.

You will need -

Last years christmas cards

Some craft scissors

Some ribbon

A hole punch

This is a great way to keep little ones entertained for the morning and getting you prepared at the same time! Win win in my eyes!

Join your local library -

The library is a great place to go with little ones, take a look on your local library’s website and you might find that they are running free half term activities.  My local library runs a toddler rhyme time and story time, they have colouring in activities too.  My kids love it, they think it is so exciting to visit and choose some books to take home and best of all it is all free.

Get out to the park

I know it is cold wet miserable and right now looking out of my window it is also snowing but getting out of the house for a while will make you all feel brighter, even in this weather.  Why not head off and jump in some muddy puddles for the morning.  It’s a great excuse to then spend the afternoon at home snuggled in the warm watching a DVD!

Online printable activities

I have found some great activities online that you can print of for free, from colouring in to writing activities for pre-schoolers there is something for everyone.

Check out these great sites -

There are some great Easter printable activities too.

Hopefully these ideas will help keep your little ones entertained for the holidays.  If you have got any other ideas of budget busting kids activities we would love to hear from you so please do leave us a comment below.

Joovy Groove Review

When I was pregnant with my second son, there was a significant age gap between him and my first so I had to start again.  My in-laws kindly bought us the travel system I had selected, which survived well for two and a half years of thrashing about, plane journeys and allsorts until one day on my way back from town one of the wheels fell off!  We were thinking of replacing it with a lightweight stroller anyway as Cory was now getting bigger and walked most of the time.  Our thoughts were to get a lightweight stroller that reclines, which would be ideal for holiday evenings so that Cory could nod off.  My other ‘must haves’ was a shopping tray and handles as opposed to a bar as I usually go on foot to the shops.

When the wheel fell off we didn’t have the money to go straight out and buy another so the grandparents lent us the one they use to tie us over.  I hated it.  It was so awkward to steer; you had to practically lift it around corners! It tipped to one side and it had a bar, not handles so I had very limited shopping capacity.  I persevered because I had to make do but still on the look out for a reasonably priced buggy that ticked my boxes.  Everything I looked at just didn’t cut it.

This was until I saw the Joovy range…

So unique to anything else I had seen so far, Joovy have only recently launched in the UK (they are based in the US) and were exhibiting at The Baby Show so I had the opportunity to ‘test drive’ the Joovy Groove – a light-weight stroller with handles (not a bar!), a shopping basket underneath, a rain cover, canopy and it reclines! It has other great features too but I will go on to them in a moment….

I was so genuinely impressed with how it handles but particularly how light it actually is! It has a solid and sturdy frame and I didn’t expect it to feel the way it did when I pushed it.  At the back of the canopy/hood there are two compartments to hold bottles/drinks and a zipped compartment, ideal for stowing away your purse.  I also love the fact that the canopy can come quite a way forward to shelter your little one from the elements that much more.

It also has little side pockets where your child sits so they can pop their beaker or bottle in there too – how many times do you end up picking these items off of the ground when you’re out hey!  The straps are adjustable as is the footrest, which you can have up or down.

Various parts of the buggy have reflectors, which I thought was a clever finishing touch for these darker winter afternoons/evenings.  It has swivel wheels that you can lock and it is really easy to assemble and fold away.  It has a robust & sturdy frame and didn’t tip despite my nearly three year old climbing and standing in it once I had taken it out of it’s box!

Joovy have thought of everything when designing this pushchair, it even has a carrying handle on the side.

My first outing to town with the Joovy was a very pleasurable experience after the clumsy buggy I had been using; there was no comparison!  I’m sure I ‘flew’ around in half the time and Cory seemed to enjoy it too…

Our Top Festive Money saving Tips

Lets face it, we all know Christmas is an expensive time of year, as parents it is hard to think about anything but the joy on your little ones faces as they rip the wrapping off their presents on Christmas day.  So we have come up with some top money saving tips to help you not only have a great Christmas but also a more prosperous new year too!

Buy a little bit at a time – From November onwards it is Christmas full on in a big way in all the Supermarkets.  So each week with my shopping I am adding just one extra item, whether it be a box of chocolates, or a small gift for someone. Something that won’t make a huge dent in my weekly budget but will make a difference when I come to do my Christmas Shop.

Stick to your list! Each year I write a list of everything I need for Christmas, from stamps to Christmas puddings. I include a list of all the presents I have to buy and take it with me every time I go shopping. That was I can pick things up as and when I see them on offer and save myself a few £££’s throughout the run up to the Festive Season.

Price comparison sites - Price comparison is a free and super easy way of finding the best bargains around.  There are lots of offers this time of the year, buy 3 for 2 on toys, toiletries and a huge amount of other things too, it is worth shopping around online to see where the best deals are before you start your Christmas shopping.  Check out PriceRunner and  Kellkoo and see what you can save. You can also visit Martin Lewis Money Saving expert website here where you will find a whole host of great tips for saving money on your festive treats as well as discount offers and coupons.

Daily Deal Sites –  There are some fantastic deals on some of the Daily Deal sites out there, we have a page on our Website dedicated to this which you can visit here.

Here are a few of my favourites I have come across this week – Mums Way have an amazing Toyrific Sale you can visit here as well as an amazing LeapFrog sale that you can see here, with amazing savings like this you will save £££££’s on your present shopping!

As well as these there is the lovely Savvy Mummys and a great site with some gorgeous Jewellery deals is Jewellery Daily Deals they are well worth a look for some amazing deals on some gorgeous gift ideas!

Use your loyalty points - Most of us have loyalty cards from the Supermarkets stuffed in our handbag somewhere and using them whilst out shopping can really pay off. I recently discovered that my Tesco Clubcard had  £90 sitting on it! Using the current deal that doubles your points this gives me £180 to spend on things in store or up to £360 on partner offers. If you haven’t checked out this great offer then take a look now with Tesco’s and see if you have any clubcard points tucked away you didn’t know about.  You might get a nice surprise right in time for your Christmas Shop!

Boots also have some brilliant loyalty points offers in the run up to Christmas too, they are well worth taking a look at.

Home Made gifts - There are some great ideas for home made gifts out there and over the next few weeks we will be sharing some of our favourites. This is a great way to get creative with the kids and save money at the same time.

Be realistic - Kids can ask for some pretty extravagant presents and as much as us parents hate saying no to them you have to be realistic about what you can actually afford.  My daughter has asked for a Pink Jeep for Christmas this year, she is nearly 4 and saw one earlier in the year when we visited a local toy store.  I have had to tell her that Santa can’t bring her that because it is too big, but she will get lots of other lovely presents on the day.  At nearly £200 there is no way our budget will stretch for the Pink Jeep that she so desperately want, I felt awful saying no to her, but I do think it is best to be honest.  I think we can get carried away sometimes with wanting our kids to have everything, saying ‘No’ from time to time does not make you a bad parent.

Register with Baby Swap or Shop - Obviously one of the best ways to save some money this Christmas is to buy and sell with us. Registration  is FREE and you can list as many items as you like free of charge!  If you have a sort out now you will be able to make a few extra ££££’s in time for the Festive Season. So what are you waiting for get over to our home page get registered, get selling and start making some extra money!

Harness buddy by Goldbug – Carrie’s Review

If your toddler is anything like mine; he is independent and has his own mind and he will go where he wants to go, usually in the opposite direction! He wriggles out of a hand-held clasp and if he sees something attractive to his eye, he will make a b line and grab it!

Sound familiar? That was until we started using the Harness Buddy and never looked back!

The Harness Buddy is a set of reigns but with a BIG difference.  Instead of the conventional (and often ugly) straps, it is a cute, cuddly animal – we have the monkey and there are many to choose from that your little ones will love.

It has adjustable sturdy chest straps with the furry friend on the back and the long wrist strap as a tail.  You can put the strap on your wrist and obviously wrap it around to shorten it if need be.  The wrist strap is detachable so that when you’re not keeping him or her from running away they can cuddle and play with their new companion.

It even has a little pouch and my little one has stowed away a small snack inside, which has been a nice novelty.

My inquisitive little boy has enjoyed a sense of freedom whilst being restrained. (He doesn’t do restraint!) And unknowingly!

It was particularly useful on our recent holiday, we wanted him to stretch his legs before having to sit still for hours on the flight, which isn’t always practical in a busy airport terminal in high season, but with the help of the Buddy he was able to explore the shops and watch the planes taking off, making the start of our holiday an exciting adventure.

Whenever we are out and about on holiday or at home, the Buddy is a real icebreaker.  Everybody comments and compliments it and we have been asked which one is the cheeky monkey to which I am not entirely sure the answer!

Another point that I would like to add is that on one occasion my little one tripped over on a concrete path and fell backwards.  (He wasn’t looking where he was going) The monkey’s head actually cushioned his fall! If it weren’t for the fact that he was wearing his Harness Buddy he would have had a nasty bang to his head, an all-round winner!

Goldbug are currently running a weekly competition over on Facebook where you can help them name all of the Harness Buddies!  Visit them here to find out more and visit Goldbug’s website  for information on prices and stockists to get your little one their very own Harness Buddy!

Celebrate your child’s birthday the cbeebies way!

Have you ever sent a birthday card in to cbeebies for your little one?

Imagine the look of glee on their face if in between their favourite shows one of the presenters held up a gorgeous handmade card for their special day!

Not sure where to start?  Here are some tips…

  1. Make sure you get your card sent as far in advance at possible – at least 8 weeks before your little one’s big day.
  2. Keep it simple and bold – and not too big (The cbeebies website advises no bigger than A2 (2 sheets of a4 stuck together.)
  3. Make sure to include your child’s name & age prominently in your design, and if you’re using a photo (who wouldn’t – otherwise how will they know it’s definitely them?!), make sure there are no visible logos on your child’s clothes.  A close up of their face, or just head & shoulders works best.
  4. Make your card landscape rather than portrait – these are easier to show on TV!

As for actually how to make the card – the possibilities are endless!

I’d suggest starting with a large sheet of reasonably thick card, then draw out your design lightly in pencil – make sure you include a large number for your child’s age, and decide where their photo will go (you could have them ‘hiding’ under a flap which you can just stick on afterwards.

If you’re feeling creative, draw one of your child’s favourite characters, and colour with bright pens, or collage with bold coloured papers – anything that will stand out.  If your artistic abilities are limited – cut characters out of a cbeebies magazine and collage them together any way you like on your card. (Tip – stick to cbeebies characters – chances are they won’t show cards featuring their rivals!) – add a little glitter or some shiney stickers, and you’re done!

Be sure to package your card well, send it off nice & early, and keep your fingers crossed.  And have your camera ready to snap a pic of the birthday girl/boy in front of the TV!

More tips & the address to send cards to can all be found on the cbeebies grownups website:http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/grownups/help/birthdays
